In 1982 Angie Pavone was a single mother searching for a home-based business. She was working as a legal secretary for a Cleveland law firm at the time but had always possessed an ability to work well with animals. One day a kennel owner called and asked if she would be interested in learning how to groom pets, and Angie took her up on her offer. She worked for the groomer for a year and a half learning the ins and outs of grooming all types of dogs. In 1984, Angie opened her own pet grooming salon and shortly afterward became a Certified Master Dog Groomer. Over the years, Angie founded a boarding kennel, and then added a pet cemetery and a pet crematorium. She became a grievance facilitator with the American Academy of Bereavement, and started a pet loss support group for grieving pet owners. She became President of the Accredited Pet Cemetery Society, a small but very elite group of pet cemeteries across the United States, and she became a speaker at conventions held in Manhattan for The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement. In January 2005, Angie founded Grooming by Angie and Miss Kitties Pet Loft in Brecksville. Future plans include hiring other groomers to run their own business out of her shop, in addition to hosting pet care classes. Angie taught a groom-your-own-pet class at Polaris and wants to begin similar classes at her new shop. Through an association with Susan Litherland, Angie has won Crane's Cleveland Business and COSE's Business Plan Challenge for a new business, Just Pawsing Together, Inc., that will provide complete full-service pet care for pets of convalescing or deceased pet owners. In 2006, Angie was also nominated as one of the Top Ten Women Business Owners by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). We met with Angie recently, and listened as she described the services her company offers;
Of everyone you know in this world, your pet is the one you can count on to always give you their best. Return the favor by setting an appointment for them at Grooming by Angie, and don't forget to tell Angie that The Advocate sent you! |
